As promised, I am providing additional and updated information about the sacrament at home and other adjustments to typical ward activities. I don’t have a timeline for how long we will have these temporary measures in place.
SACRAMENT
- The Aaronic priesthood will not be sent out to take the sacrament to ward members. These brethren should be at home with their families.
- The administration of the sacrament should follow what we do in church. However, sacrament trays won’t be distributed to homes. This is an opportunity to feel the power of the atonement. This is the purpose of the sacrament.
- The sacrament should always be administered on Sunday.
- Members should refrain from gathering in groups to partake of the sacrament.
- The sacrament should not be part of a meeting or other activity. It should be a simple and sacred stand-alone ordinance.
- Families can start with family prayer, a sacramental hymn and then the ordinance.
- Closing prayers and hymns should not be part of the sacrament.
- Again, the sacrament should be provided at least once a month and not more than once a week.
TITHES & OFFERINGS
- Please pay tithes and offerings online. If members haven’t created an account to pay their tithes online, now is a wonderful time to do so. If anyone needs help, contact a clerk or member of the bishopric.
- If online is not feasible, ministering brothers and sisters will supply envelopes that can be mailed to me. (Please do not mail cash!)
- As a last resort, bring your tithing directly to me or arrange for me to pick it up. Per the handbook, tithing can only be delivered to or collected by the bishop outside of the church.
- We will temporarily suspend the collection of fast offerings by the Aaronic priesthood.
At this time of uncertainty, I feel the need to ask you to review your fast offerings and consider how richly we have been blessed. Please be generous and prove the Lord.
Please follow these guidelines as best as you can. I am reminded of D&C 132:8.
I will make every effort to keep you up to date as circumstances change. Please check the Riverdale 7th Ward News web page.
Good brothers and sisters your strength, your testimonies, and your faith will carry the day.
