Returning to Weekly Meetings – Update

Hello friends,

Changes continue to happen.  It is part of our lives, more so now than ever before, to have constant change.  I recently sent out a message stating that weekly sacrament meetings would start on September 27th. Following the current trend, the date has changed.  We will not have sacrament meeting on September 27th.

In consultation with the stake presidency and the bishops of the Riverdale stake, it has been determined that the whole stake will begin meeting on October 11th.  There will be two meetings each week; a sacrament meeting and a second hour meeting.  I will share more about the second hour meeting later.

Our sacrament meeting will begin at 9:00 am and will last approximately one hour.  Sacrament meeting will be held in the chapel and, with the exception of the sacrament ordinance itself, will be live streamed to those who wish to join from home.  The ordinance of the sacrament will move to the end of the sacrament meeting and, again, will not be live streamed.  For those high risk saints or for those who are uncomfortable meeting in the chapel and, if there is a member of the priesthood in the home, it is permissible to administer the sacrament at the conclusion of the live streamed portion of the meeting. The Aaronic and Melchezidek priesthood quorums will make arrangements to allow those without the priesthood in their home to have the sacrament on Sunday. This will occur after the above mentioned second hour meeting.

The second hour meeting will be a live streamed only event.  We are still working on the logistics but, here’s a quick overview.  The second hour will rotate between priesthood/Relief Society/Young Women and Sunday school each week.  It will follow the same schedule we had before in-person meetings were stopped.  Sunday school will be held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays and Priesthood/Relief Society/Young Women will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. The second hour meeting will be broken into two sessions, one for the youth and one for the adults The youth session is scheduled from 10:30 am – 11:00 am and, the adult session is scheduled from  11:10 am – 11:40 am.  This will allow for sharing of devices, etc.

All of this is still being planned and, the ward council is working hard to ensure the meetings will go as smoothly as possible. There will be updates provided over the next two weeks to clarify and solidify the plan moving forward. Thank you for your patience and your goodness. We will be uplifted and blessed by participating in these sabbath day activities.

Love,    Bishop Knight
